Why Saturday mattered

A night after one hit, Atlanta had ten. Michael Harris II had four of them and scored three times in an 8–3 win that evened the series in Miami.

One night after Eury Pérez held the Braves to a single hit, Michael Harris II had four by himself. He went 4-for-5 with two doubles, scored three runs and drove in another Saturday, and Atlanta beat Miami 8–3 at loanDepot park to even the series at a game apiece.

Harris started it in the first. He doubled to right and scored on Matt Olson's sacrifice fly. In the second, Dominic Smith hit a two-run homer to right-center, his ninth, bringing Mike Yastrzemski home ahead of him. Harris singled later in the inning. When Ronald Acuña Jr. reached on a fielder's choice, third baseman Javier Sanoja made a fielding error that let Ha-Seong Kim score and sent Harris to third. That made it 4–0.

The fourth made it 6–0. Harris doubled to left, his 36th double of the season, to score Kim. Olson followed with a single to first that brought Harris home.

Atlanta handed the ball to six pitchers, and Brent Suter set the tone. He threw three scoreless innings on 43 pitches, allowing one hit, walking nobody and striking out three. Miami broke through against Dylan Dodd in the fourth. Sanoja hit a solo homer to left-center, and Griffin Conine singled home Agustín Ramírez to make it 6–2.

Victor Mederos steadied it after that. He threw two hitless innings with two strikeouts and got the win. Heriberto Hernández tripled home Otto Lopez off Robert Suarez in the seventh to cut it to 6–3. Dylan Lee worked the eighth, allowing one hit and striking out one, and earned the hold.

The Braves put it away in the ninth. Harris singled to center, and Drake Baldwin homered to center, his 25th, for an 8–3 lead. Baldwin finished 3-for-5 with two RBI, and Olson drove in two as well.

Raisel Iglesias closed it out. Conine singled, then De Los Santos lined out to Harris in center and Jared Serna flied out to Yastrzemski in left. Lopez grounded to Austin Riley at third, and Riley's throw to Olson ended it.

Jack Ralston took the loss after allowing three runs in one and one-third innings.

The series comes down to Sunday's finale at 2:10 p.m. CT. JR Ritchie (one win, four losses, a 4.79 ERA in 10 starts) goes for Atlanta against Janson Junk (six wins, nine losses, a 4.31 ERA in 24 starts).
